Inside Gratitude Provides Abundance: Angela Butler Lewis Shares a Journey of Healing and Gratitude

Intentional prayer, journaling, and pausing throughout the day to acknowledge God’s continual goodness are just a few of the ways Angela Butler Lewis, MBA, practices gratitude. “I make it a priority to speak life over myself and others, to celebrate even the smallest victories, and to remain aware of the quiet blessings that often go unnoticed,” Lewis says.

When the opportunity came to share a testimony reflecting God’s goodness, Lewis knew she wanted to become a contributing author in Gratitude Provides Abundance, published by Sparkle Publishing.

“Gratitude has carried me through some of my most difficult seasons, and becoming part of this anthology felt like a divine assignment. It gave me the space to honor my mother’s legacy, celebrate my own healing, and offer encouragement to others walking their personal journeys.”

For Lewis, her chapter represents only a small part of a much greater story. Following the passing of her beloved mother, she found herself carrying experiences that would eventually become messages of hope for others. “In many ways, I have been spiritually pregnant with these experiences, waiting for the right moment to give birth to what has been growing inside me,” she says. “Writing has allowed me to journal and release some of those labor pains. And truthfully, there are more ‘babies’ yet to be born.”

Lewis describes herself as a woman shaped by faith, family, and the quiet strength that often emerges through life’s most defining moments. “Growing up in Louisiana, I was surrounded by love, culture, and the values my mother, Inez King, and grandmother, Queenie King, instilled in me—resilience, compassion, and integrity. As a little girl, I spent countless days beside my grandmother listening to her hum Dr. Wyatt hymns while she cleaned the house. Those quiet moments became some of the earliest seeds of the faith that continues to guide my life today.”

Today, Lewis serves as Director of Accounts Receivable, where she oversees financial operations and receivables strategy with a practical, solution-focused approach. While her career has been built on discipline, leadership, and analytical thinking, she believes the same faith and resilience that carried her through life’s challenges continue to guide the way she leads others.

In Gratitude Provides Abundance, Lewis’ chapter, “The Journey of Gratitude,” offers an intimate glimpse into a season that tested, transformed, and ultimately strengthened her faith. “This chapter also represents me opening a small part of what lives inside of me—an invitation for others to begin releasing what lives inside of them.” She continues, “We each have one life, and when our time is done, the question becomes: What have you given to the world? Whose life have you touched? What will your dash say about you? My hope is that this chapter encourages readers to start sharing their own stories, because someone is waiting to be helped by what you carry. Never mute your potential or your possibilities, start your journey now.”

Gratitude Provides Abundance

Revisiting painful memories wasn’t easy. Lewis says writing her chapter required her to confront moments that still carried emotional weight. Yet, what began as a difficult process became an unexpected part of her healing, reminding her that growth often comes from facing what was once avoided. “This chapter also became a space for me to reflect on forgiveness—releasing old baggage, acknowledging the lessons, and moving forward with a renewed heart. As I wrote, I began to see the blessings woven throughout my journey more clearly. That is the essence of gratitude for me: the rainbow that appears after the storm, revealing beauty that was always there, waiting to be seen.”

Through the writing process, Lewis says God also revealed how much strength she had gained from experiences she once viewed only through the lens of pain. “He showed me that gratitude wasn’t just a response; it was a spiritual posture that sustained me long before I recognized it.” “Gratitude has taught me to look for God’s hand even when I couldn’t see His plan. It shifted my focus from what I lost to what I gained—wisdom, strength, clarity, and a deeper relationship with Him. Gratitude didn’t erase the pain, but it gave me the courage to rise above it.”

Psalm 46:5—”God is within her, she will not fall.” This Scripture has been Lewis’ anchor, reminding her that God’s presence is her strength. “In moments where I felt overwhelmed or uncertain, this verse reassured me that I was never standing alone.” Lewis hopes readers leave her chapter encouraged, uplifted, and spiritually renewed. “I want them to walk away believing that God is still working, still present, and still writing beauty into their story. My prayer is that they feel seen and reminded that gratitude can be a powerful source of healing.”

For Lewis, the message of her chapter reaches beyond the pages of the anthology and into the everyday lives of those searching for hope. Lewis knows firsthand what it feels like to walk through seasons of grief, uncertainty, and unanswered questions. That’s why her message extends beyond the pages of Gratitude Provides Abundance. She encourages those who may feel discouraged or overlooked to remember that God has not forgotten them. Even in seasons when He seems silent, Lewis believes He is still at work, preparing something greater than they can yet imagine. She often encourages others to reflect on the message in Footprints in the Sand, believing it illustrates how God carries us through our most challenging moments, offering hope when our own strength feels depleted. Lewis also credits the unwavering support of those God has placed in her life. She describes her sister, DeVette Davenport, as “my heart and my sounding board since my teenage years—my shero in every sense of the word.” She also shares that her circle of friends—the ACES—know her intimately, celebrate her victories, pray for her in difficult seasons, and walk beside her with genuine love. Lewis also cherishes another close-knit circle, the 3-Live Crew, whose joy, honesty, and unwavering support continue to remind her that friendship can be both a refuge and a source of strength.

“Gratitude is a seed—small, quiet, and powerful. Plant it in every season, even the ones shadowed by difficulty, and trust that God will draw abundance from the most unexpected soil. Your story matters. Your voice carries weight. Your life leaves an imprint. So do not stop. If you cannot walk, then crawl. If you cannot crawl, then breathe and lean forward. Movement, no matter how small, is still movement. Keep going. Keep growing. Keep giving thanks along the way.”
