Seasons Of Her: Darriell Y. Archie— From Surviving to Surrender
“I am proud of the woman I have become, while knowing God is still writing my story.”
A native of New Orleans, Darriell Y. Archie is an author, speaker, legal professional, and purpose-driven leader whose life reflects a thoughtful balance of faith, family, excellence, and service. With nearly two decades of professional experience spanning the legal field, higher education, leadership, advocacy, and community engagement, Darriell has built a career rooted in integrity and intentionality. While her professional journey has afforded her many accomplishments, she believes true success is not simply about accomplishments, but about character, impact, and legacy.
Today, Darriell describes herself as a woman grounded in faith, family, purpose, and service. She is a wife, mother, Litigation Paralegal, leader, author, and speaker, but those titles are only parts of her. “At my core, I am a woman who knows who she is, values growth and excellence, and believes in using her experiences to make a difference. I am proud of the woman I have become, while knowing God is still writing my story.”
At the heart of her world is family. A loving wife and doting mother, Darriell considers the life she shares with those she loves among her greatest blessings. Marriage and motherhood have enriched her perspective on love, patience, grace, and presence, while continually reminding her that some of life’s most meaningful moments happen far beyond professional spaces.
Before her career took her into courtrooms, higher education, and leadership, Darriell was classically trained in ballet. The discipline of dance became an unexpected foundation she would carry throughout her life. Ballet taught her the value of preparation, perseverance, precision, and composure. Those lessons have continued to shape the way she views life’s seasons. Darriell has come to understand that grace and strength are not opposites; they often exist together. Some seasons call for us to stand firmly, others require us to move differently, and wisdom is often found in knowing the difference.
That perspective is reflected in her contribution to Seasons of Her, where she shares a deeply personal chapter of her journey. Darriell knew she was ready to share this part of her story when she could look at it through the lens of what she had learned rather than only through what she had endured. “I did not want to share simply to tell people what happened to me; I wanted to share the faith, wisdom, resilience, and strength that came from it.” Her hope is that another woman sees possibility in her story. “A difficult season does not have the authority to define an entire life. There can still be healing, purpose, beauty, and promise on the other side.”
Part of Darriell’s story is a season in which she was navigating domestic violence while still being a mother, professional, and woman with goals and responsibilities. Over time, prolonged fear and stress affected her well-being, and she realized that strength was not simply about how much she could endure. “I wish people understood that leaving is rarely as simple as saying, ‘Just walk away.’ Fear, children, finances, emotional manipulation, safety concerns, isolation, and uncertainty can all make leaving incredibly complicated. Sometimes a woman is quietly planning, preparing, and finding the courage to leave long before anyone else realizes it.”
For Darriell, survivors need compassion, support, resources, and safety—not judgment. “Instead of asking, ‘Why didn’t she leave?’ I believe we should ask, ‘What did she need in order to feel safe enough to leave?’” Seeking freedom became about choosing her peace, health, voice, and future. She learned that leaving can be a process requiring courage, careful decisions, support, and patience. “That season is part of my story, but it is not the definition of my story.”
The constant stress eventually took a toll on Darriell’s body, contributing to multiple strokes. The experience profoundly changed her perspective. “I had always been driven and accustomed to pushing through, but my health taught me that some things cannot be postponed. I realized that caring for myself was not selfish and that my health was part of my ability to fulfill my purpose.” She still has ambitious goals, but success looks different to her now. “I want achievement alongside peace, health, faith, meaningful relationships, and the ability to enjoy the life I have worked so hard to build.”
FROM THE PAGES OF SEASONS OF HER
Darriell Y. Archie’s Chapter: From Surviving to Surrender
Excerpt: Like many survivors, leaving wasn’t something I could do immediately. It often takes several attempts to leave safely because the most dangerous time is often when you try to walk away. The constant stress eventually took a toll on my body, contributing to multiple strokes. Yet even in those moments, God never abandoned me. He sustained me, strengthened me, and prepared me for freedom.

SEASONS OF HER
Throughout the season, Darriell’s faith became her foundation. There were moments when she could not see how everything would work out, but she believed God had not abandoned her. Prayer became a source of strength, clarity, and reassurance when she could not control what was happening around her. “Faith did not mean I was never afraid or uncertain. It meant those feelings did not have the final word.”
Looking back, Darriell says she can see God’s presence throughout her journey—giving her strength, wisdom, and courage when she needed it most. Healing was not one moment. “It was a journey of reclaiming my peace, deepening my faith, establishing healthy boundaries, and learning that what happened to me did not have to follow me into my future.”
Her husband has also played a beautiful role in that journey. Through their relationship, Darriell has experienced what healthy love looks like—love that is safe, supportive, respectful, and rooted in partnership. “His presence did not erase my past, but his love and support have helped create space for continued healing and reminded me that my past did not disqualify me from experiencing healthy love.”
Healing also taught her that she did not have to return to who she was before. “I can become someone even stronger, wiser, and more whole. My life today is proof that what happened to you does not have to determine what happens for you.”
The journey from surviving to surrender taught Darriell that she was stronger than she realized, while also showing her that she did not have to carry everything alone. “I can be ambitious, work diligently, and pursue excellence while still trusting God with what I cannot control.” That season made her more intentional, discerning, grateful, and grounded in her faith. She no longer sees her story only through what she survived, but through what God brought her through and who she became along the way.

That is also part of what made Seasons of Her meaningful to her. “Seasons of Her created an opportunity for women to share their stories with honesty, dignity, and purpose. I contributed because I realized my experiences could serve something greater than myself.” Darriell wants women to understand that they are more than what they have survived. “A difficult season does not cancel your purpose, diminish your value, or determine your destiny.” If her testimony helps another woman believe that a different future is possible, then sharing it was worthwhile.
Putting this part of her journey into words was both vulnerable and meaningful. She had to reflect on a deeply personal chapter while deciding what belonged to her privately and what she felt called to share publicly. “Ultimately, I chose to focus not on every detail of what happened, but on what came from it—faith, growth, wisdom, strength, and a new beginning.” Knowing other women would read her words made her want to leave them with hope and the reminder that a difficult chapter does not determine how their story ends.
For the woman reading her chapter while still in her struggle, Darriell’s prayer is that she knows she is not forgotten by God and that this season is not the end of her story. “I pray God gives her wisdom for her next step, courage to take it, protection along the way, and people who will genuinely support her.” She also prays that fear, shame, or uncertainty will not convince her that she has no future. “May she know that her life has value, her voice matters, and what happened to her does not define her destiny.”
And ultimately, Darriell hopes the woman who is struggling will one day look back and recognize how far she has come and how faithfully God carried her. “Most of all, I pray that one day she looks back and sees not only how far she has come, but how faithfully God carried her.”
Away from her professional and literary pursuits, Darriell finds joy in the things that allow her to create, connect, and simply be present. An avid reader and writer, she also enjoys dancing, cooking, and crafting—creative outlets that reflect both her New Orleans roots and her appreciation for making something meaningful with her own hands.
Whether she is writing, leading, mentoring, creating, or spending time with family, Darriell strives to live with intention and leave room for joy. Through every chapter, she remains grounded in faith and committed to becoming—not for the sake of perfection, but with gratitude for the woman she is, appreciation for the woman she has been, and anticipation for all that is still ahead.
