How Tamika Williams Found Gratitude Through Life’s Hardest Seasons in Gratitude Provides Abundance

Tamika Williams, M.Ed. is a wife, mother of four, educator, author, and speaker whose life has been shaped by faith, resilience, and gratitude. As a contributing author in Gratitude Provides Abundance, she shares a personal story about trusting God through life’s unexpected seasons. In this Q&A with Today’s Purpose Woman, Williams reflects on perseverance, purpose, and why gratitude has become a daily choice.

Your story centers on gratitude, but you make it clear that gratitude isn’t always easy. When did it become more than a feeling for you?

My life has taught me that gratitude is not simply a response to blessings; it is a decision we make even when life doesn’t make sense. As a wife, mother, educator, and leader, I have experienced seasons of tremendous joy, but also seasons of deep heartbreak, disappointment, and unimaginable loss. Through every chapter, God continued to prove His faithfulness.

I accepted the opportunity to contribute because I wanted others to know that gratitude isn’t reserved for the mountaintops. It is often cultivated in the valleys. If my story encourages even one person to trust God through difficult seasons, then sharing it was worth it.

Your chapter invites readers into a deeply personal season. What do you hope they discover through your story?

My chapter is an honest reflection of what it means to continue believing God while carrying heavy burdens. Readers will discover that gratitude isn’t pretending everything is perfect, it’s recognizing God’s presence even when life feels broken.

I share some of my most vulnerable experiences because I believe transparency gives others permission to heal. Too often, people see accomplishments without understanding the sacrifices, tears, prayers, and perseverance behind them. I wanted readers to know that God’s grace can sustain us through every season.

Gratitude Provides Abundance

Looking back now, where can you see God at work that you couldn’t see in the moment?

God showed me that gratitude is an act of trust. It isn’t dependent upon favorable circumstances; it’s rooted in confidence that He is still working even when I cannot see the outcome.

I realized that many of my greatest blessings were born from seasons I would never have chosen. Looking back, I can clearly see that God was developing my character, strengthening my faith, and preparing me for assignments greater than I imagined. Gratitude became the bridge between my pain and His purpose.

Was there a Scripture or prayer that carried you through those difficult days?

One Scripture that has continually anchored me is Proverbs 3:5–6:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

There were many moments when I simply prayed, “Lord, I don’t understand what You’re doing, but I trust Your heart.”

That prayer became my posture. Even when answers didn’t come immediately, God’s peace reminded me that His plans are always greater than my perspective.

If a woman is reading this while wondering whether she’ll make it through her own difficult season, what would you want to tell her?

Don’t give up.

Your current season does not define your future. Some of your greatest victories are being developed in places no one else can see.

Allow yourself to grieve, to heal, and to grow, but don’t lose your faith. God has not forgotten you. The very thing that feels like it’s breaking you today may become the testimony that gives someone else hope tomorrow.

Continue praying. Continue believing. Continue taking one faithful step at a time. You are stronger than you know because God is stronger than what you’re facing.

When someone finishes your chapter, what do you hope stays with them long after they’ve turned the last page?

I hope readers leave believing that gratitude is a lifestyle, not a feeling.

I want them to understand that abundance isn’t measured solely by material possessions or outward success. True abundance is found in God’s presence, His peace, His purpose, and the relationships He entrusts to us.

If readers close my chapter feeling encouraged to trust God a little deeper, love a little stronger, forgive a little quicker, and thank Him a little more often, even in difficult seasons, then my purpose as an author has been fulfilled.
