LaShaune Lee: Triumphing over Adversity through Faith
LaShaune Lee is a woman of faith, a clinical social worker, a mother, and a co-author of “Faith for Fiery Trials” (FFFT) Volume 4. Her story is one of triumph over adversity and a testament to the power of faith. In this in-depth author spotlight feature, LaShaune shares her personal journey and the inspiration behind her contribution to the Faith for Fiery Trials project.
Lee is a proud mother of three adult sons and has been married to the love of her life for 26 years. She is also the Director of Clinical Services at a non-profit empowerment program for Black girls ages 5-young adulthood in Ward 8 in Washington, D.C. But above all, she is a child of Jesus Christ and a member of Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church in Washington, D.C. where she has the best pastors on this side of glory – Bishop Alfred A. Owens, Jr. and Co-Pastor Dr. Susie C. Owens.
Lee’s journey to becoming a co-author in the FFFT project is a story of divine intervention. Elder Nicole Mason approached her after church one day and invited her to have lunch. Lee was taken aback by the invitation. “As an usher in church for many years (now president of the ministry), I had occasionally directed Elder Nicole to a seat, and we exchanged salutations now and then. I have had the privilege to hear her preach. I could not fathom why someone like her would want to talk to me. It seemed like we had nothing in common.” But this led to a later encounter, where Elder Nicole encouraged Lee to write her story. It hit her like a thunder bolt, shook her, and scared her. But Lee knew that if she didn’t do it now, she would never do it. The rest is history, as Lee went on to write her story for Faith for Fiery Trials Volume 4.
“The challenges that came along were great – doubt, insecurity, balancing my schedule. The ability to share my personal life in hopes of helping others was a very daunting task. But as I started to write, God showed me how He has been with me my entire life and things the devil sent to utterly destroy me God used for my good and His glory. This entire writing process was a faith walk. And God was with me through all of it!” says Lee.
The FFFT project is a collection of stories of individuals who have faced and overcome life’s most challenging trials through faith. Lee’s contribution to the project reflects her own journey of faith. “It took an extraordinary amount of faith to even write this story!!! I had to believe that God called me to this book anthology project. I had to believe that my story would make a difference in the life of people. That what I survived was indeed for this reason – publicly sharing a story of my deliverance in order to set others free,” says Lee.
“It is my prayer that by reading my story, the reader will be able to know there is another person walking this earth that has survived some devastating things and I am still here! Still in my right mind, still holding on to God’s unchanging hand! If I can make it, so can you! My story – along with the other stories, is a blueprint for surviving any situation you find yourself in – whether you chose it, or it was chosen for you. God can and will deliver you too!” says Lee.
Lee’s faith has played a significant role in overcoming challenges in her life. “I cannot live my life without faith in God! I tried and failed – horribly. It is impossible for me now to divorce God from ANY part of my life. If I had to continue living life – the things I experience as a clinical social worker, walking others through their trauma and not crumble myself – without the Lord on my side, would be pointless. To have raised my children and ALL that comes with that – without God, I would be lost. To accept leadership opportunities that have come my way takes faith. To live in these last days takes faith. I have to believe God is real, He really loves me, and He is really in control, or I would have lost my mind long ago,” says Lee.
For those facing their own fiery trials and seeking to strengthen their faith, Lee offers this advice: “Stay with God! Hang close with Him – in fact, lean in closer. Hold tight. We get nowhere in life without struggle. The struggle is designed to develop you, not dismantle you. Even though you may not see it now, there is a purpose in what you are currently going through. Let God help you and get out of the way. He will never leave you or forsake you. I am a living witness.”
Lee is a living testament to the power of faith and the importance of sharing one’s story to inspire others. Her journey is a testament to the power of faith, the importance of sharing one’s story, and the resilience of the human spirit. Her contribution to the FFFT project is a beacon of hope for those facing their own fiery trials. As Lee puts it, “If I can make it, so can you!”
