LaNette Kincaide on Her New Book, Letters To Mom : Writing To Heaven

My name is LaNette Kincaide and I’m an author, Writing Coach and a Certified Grief Coach. I’m a Marine wife, mother and grandma who loves people, polka dots and anything that glitters. I help aspiring authors either write or sell their books. I believe in teaching my clients to be intentional with their books because every book has a purpose.

I remember how hard it was to self-publish my first book and I also remember the daunting thoughts of trying to sell my first book as well. I don’t want anyone to experience either of those moments with their first books. Because of my experiences as a beginning author, I’m most passionate about helping writers write and share their stories in the form of a book, and I’m passionate about helping authors to sell their books. My motto is to sell your words! My nickname is “the Word Pusher.” Funny, but true!

On June 2, 2021, I lost my mother suddenly. I sometimes describe the moment of losing my mom as becoming MOTHERLESS. I didn’t realize until last year that losing a mother differs from losing any other family member. Because I had lost my dad already, losing a mom made me feel somewhat like an orphan. A month after my mother passed away, I started writing “letters” to my mom to help heal from the pain I felt from her death. I didn’t plan to write a book regarding my mom’s death, but God told me to publish this book to help others. So I wrote, “Letters To Mom: Writing To Heaven”. This book is for anyone who has lost a mom or relative and felt their death left a hole in their heart.

“Letters To Mom” is an essential book because I feel there are a lot of women in our society that may have lost their mom, but may not have had the courage or opportunity to share their experience of losing their mom with others. On the other end of the spectrum, some women are once like I once was; where I felt my mom was invincible. I was oblivious to my mom ever dying. I spent the first part of her death in shock. This book shares candid moments of my pain and grief.

This book is NOT for everyone; this book is for women who have lost a mom. I also feel that women whose moms are still living could learn a big lesson as well. Women whose moms are alive can learn to never take their mom for granted and don’t assume she will live forever. This book will be a great read for anyone that picks it up, but I wrote it for my sisters whose moms are no longer living. God wanted me to publish this book for women to heal from their grief of losing a mom.

I recently received feedback from the editor of “Letters To Mom”, Naomi Dunsen- White who stated that as she read my book, she felt as if she was sitting in my living room listening to me tell my story of my experience of losing my mom. I loved hearing my editor tell me how she cried and laughed at so many of the details in my book.

Tips or advice that I would like to offer for the women who read this book; please be ready to laugh and cry. The sad moments of this book are super sad, but there are also moments in this book where you will try to remind yourself that you shouldn’t be laughing. Get your tissues ready!

As an author, I want to share with others to not suppress your gift of writing. I personally feel that everyone has a genuine gift of writing and telling their story. I also feel that everyone has a story that will help someone else. Now is the time to write your book! Don’t overthink it. Just believe you can write your book and you can. If you already have a book that you’ve written, keep talking about it, but don’t waste time talking to people that you know may not be interested in your book. Figure out who needs your book and keep talking about it and it will sell. Be intentional!
