Katherine A. Young Walks Us Through Her Book Shoot Your Shot: You Have What It Takes to Win!

Katherine A. Young is a positive philanthropist who loves to see lives changed for the better. She advocates using her gifts to grow in life through self-development.

Writing and educating in various forms is Katherine’s natural gift. She has been an urban educator for 18 years and was a very successful freelance book publishing editor, helping over 46 clients edit their books for six years.

She is a freelance editor and contributor to The Traveler Weekly and has authored two books, Praise While You’re Pregnant: Connecting with God Through the Womb, and her latest (ebook), Shoot Your Shot: You Have What It Takes to Win!

Shoot Your Shot: You Have What It Takes to Win! is an inspirational and action-oriented book that encourages you to focus on skills and gifts you already possess to make positive changes in your life. A reminder that the things that come easy to you are the very things that can position your life for new open doors just for you.

After having a very close relative transition in 2017, Katherine recalls feeling burnt out, depressed, and overwhelmed with grief. “I needed a break. I took a year off from teaching, and in that time, I wanted to still earn some money.” She continues, “I have been told that I have an “eagle eye” when it comes to editing, and God aligned my path with Ms. Kiyanni Bryan of Write It Out Publishing. She needed an editor, and I was willing and available to learn and try to use my gifts in this unknown territory. Well, we synced up, and business was going well! I became a freelancer and offered my services to other clients; I even had a client in Paris, France. I am proud to say that I have been blessed to help numerous authors with their books.” In using her natural gift of editing, Katherine was encouraged and felt good knowing she did not have to rely only on her 9-5. “That’s how Shoot Your Shot came about.”

Still mulling it over, Katherine wrote down some ideas and then waited. And then the Covid-19 pandemic hit. “Who knew we would have witnessed or experienced this type of pandemic during our lifetime,” she says. “While everyone was at home, we had to get creative with earning income since many were released from their positions—but that did not mean the bills were stopping, right? Then Boom! The Great Resignation entered, walked in, and opened our eyes to see that we do not have to live life the same way as expected and that we can truly reclaim our time. We can use our gifts to create new paths of opportunity for our lifestyles.”

Katherine feels that now is a better time to encourage the masses to take what they have, use it to further their lifestyle, and shoot their shot. She challenges those who aren’t using their gifts to do so.

“We spend so much time admiring others’ being in their lane and celebrating them, but then we seem so lost when we ponder how we can  improve our lifestyle. How can we pay off debt and create new opportunities? We are worth taking chances on ourselves for the betterment of our future.”

In practicing what she preaches, Katherine doesn’t shy away from sharing that this interview is her taking her shot. “Listen: this is me taking my shot, doing this interview, although everything is not exactly how I want it. I am working through being an overthinker, and have been blessed with a plethora of ideas. My gifts have made room for me, and in this season, my gift of writing and educating on various platforms challenges me to see that there are new doors to open. There are new lives to touch and impact in a positive way. There’s room for all of us to eat. I’m taking my shots—will you?”

Shoot Your Shot: You Have What It Takes to Win! is written for the individual who is seeking out change. “It’s for someone who recognizes that their life can be fuller and richer if they start at their own table and examine what they have inside of them. It’s for the go-getter who knows deep down inside that there is more to life besides being sucked dry of everyone’s expectations.” She says that even if you seek employment with a different company, bet on yourself and take a chance.
