The Gift of the Pen: Lisa “Chynadoll” Clark’s Journey of Becoming in Seasons of Her
Lisa “Chynadoll” Clark describes herself as being in a season of Waiting/Becoming. After a long period of waiting, Clark says she is embracing her journey as the author she believes God intended her to be. As a contributing author in Seasons of Her, published by Sparkle Publishing, she shares “The Gift of the Pen,” a chapter centered on her belief that writing can provide insight, understanding, and perspective for others as they navigate their own journeys.
Clark’s season of becoming has not come without trials. Her faith was deeply challenged following the murder of her baby brother, whom she says she practically raised. Through that devastating loss and other experiences in her life, she found lessons that would ultimately shape her faith and her writing.
In this Q&A with Today’s Purpose Woman, Clark shares her season of becoming, the gift of writing, the experiences that have shaped her faith, and her encouragement for women walking through seasons of uncertainty, heartbreak, or transition.
Every woman walks through different seasons of life. What season inspired you to share your story in Seasons of Her?
Waiting/Becoming: In this season, I feel blessed to be a vessel of God and to share insight through the gift of the pen. After waiting for so long, I am excited to finally become the author I believe God intended me to be since birth.
I ask God to replace my nervousness with courage and give me a strong mind and focus so that I can share my life experiences through writing for His sheep. I believe writing can be therapeutic and can help others gain insight and understanding as they navigate their own journeys in life.
What did that season reveal to you about God that you may not have understood before walking through it?
In my Season of Becoming, I realized that God is merciful and powerful. I learned that even our trials can carry lessons and that God shows up in His timing. He hears our prayers, watches over us, and knows our mind, body, soul, and spirit. He has plans for our lives, even when we cannot yet see or understand them.
Most of all, this season taught me to trust that God Almighty is in control.
Was there a moment during that season when your faith was challenged, strengthened, or changed? Tell us about it.
My faith was deeply challenged when my baby brother, whom I practically raised, was murdered. I struggled to accept it and reached my breaking point, crying out to God to restore my focus and sanity. I even apologized to Him because, in the depth of my grief, I felt as though I was being disobedient.
Through that immense pain, God showed me His sovereignty and reminded me that life is ultimately in His hands. That experience reshaped my spiritual walk. I learned that everyone carries a unique story and a heavy cross, but trusting God through the darkest valleys is essential to finding peace and renewal.
What made you realize that what you had walked through could become a source of encouragement for another woman?
Life continues moving, and every experience teaches us something. I realized that women often carry heavy crosses while still finding the strength to move forward.
We cannot afford to remain stuck in adversity. Women need one another. Encouragement, connection, and mutual support can make a difference when someone is walking through a difficult season. By sharing our journeys and standing shoulder-to-shoulder through the fire, we can use what we have learned to strengthen another woman who may be facing her own battle.

SEASONS OF Her
Your chapter includes both testimony and prayer. Why was it important for you to not only share what you experienced, but also pray for women who may be walking through something similar?
Sharing my testimony allows another woman to know that she is not alone, but praying for her allows me to stand with her spiritually. I know what it feels like to need God to carry you through a season you do not understand.
I did not want to simply share what I survived. I wanted to pray that another woman would receive the strength, peace, courage, and faith she needs to continue through her own season. It is a blessing to still be in the palm of the Lord’s hand, breathing and experiencing the fruits of life in honor of God.
Looking back now, how has that season shaped the woman you are today?
I have learned that when trials come, I do not have to remain stuck in them. I realized I had been using the wrong word. What I once called “problems,” I now see as part of my testimony.
Through my life experiences and growing closer to God, I began to understand that I have a purpose and a voice that can be used to encourage His sheep. I know now that I am special to God and that I matter. He created me just the way I am, and I will not allow anyone to make me feel unworthy of His love.
Priceless!
What would you say to the woman who is currently walking through a season of uncertainty, waiting, heartbreak, transition, or beginning again and needs to know that God has not forgotten her?
Stay connected to God and keep prayed up. Never believe that you have been forgotten. God has brought you through battles before, and He can carry you through this one.
Guard your mind, maintain a positive outlook, and be careful about the words you speak over your life. The sun always rises again, and this storm may be preparing you for your next chapter.
You are here to fulfill God’s purpose. Stay focused on your personal growth, keep moving forward, and trust Him through the process. Your story is still being written.
Keep the faith.
