I Said Yes to God-And That Yes Led Me to Empower Women in Uganda

A few years ago, my employer, a Fortune 50 company, tapped me to build a program to empower African women. I said yes, but more importantly, I prayed. In prayer, the Holy Spirit led me to Opportunity International, the organization God wanted me to partner with. He revealed that I should begin this work by impacting women in Uganda.

For two years, the program launched and took root under my company. When the project ended, I felt both uncertainty and stirring. It was then that the Holy Spirit reminded me that when one door closes, God opens another. He placed it on my heart to continue the work, take over the program as a personal initiative, and expand its reach. Out of that divine nudge, TAWEEI, The African Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative, was officially born in 2023.

For years, I carried a restlessness, knowing that while my career achievements were fulfilling, they were not the fullness of God’s call on my life. I had traveled to various African countries for two decades, always leaving transformed, inspired, and humbled. But in Uganda in 2023, something shifted. I met women whose resilience left me in awe, young and old, with eyes shining with hope, yet lacking access to mentorship, financial resources, training, and more. Yet they dreamed. They dreamed big dreams for their families, their businesses, and their villages.

In 2024, one group of TAWEEI women’s dream stayed with me. They had been praying for something as basic and vital as clean water. Their plea weighed heavily on my heart. Alongside an intercessor from my church, I prayed with them for six months during our Midnight Cry Prayer call. We didn’t know how it would happen, but we trusted God would provide.

Then, in the way only He can, God orchestrated divine connections. I met an Apostle whose friend builds wells in Uganda, exactly where these women live. In December 2025, the well was completed. For the first time, that village and surrounding communities had access to clean water. Christians and Muslims alike celebrated together. The well became more than water; it became a testimony of God’s faithfulness and His attentiveness to every cry of His children. Since TAWEEI’s launch in Spring 2023, family, friends, and strangers alike have generously contributed over $130,000 USD, equivalent to 476.9 million Ugandan Shillings, empowering thousands of TAWEEI women entrepreneurs in Uganda to scale their businesses, support their families, and transform their communities. Every milestone, whether a woman opening her first shop, sending her children to school, or saving her first profit, is a miracle. These victories are not mine; they belong to God. TAWEEI is a living testimony of His love, care, faithfulness, and the power of obedience.

The journey has not been without trials. I have wrestled with self-doubt, faced logistical challenges, and endured seasons of waiting that test my patience. But it is in these moments that God strengthens my resilience and faith. I’ve learned that surrender is not weakness; it’s strength. When I release fear and let God lead, the impact multiplies in ways I could never orchestrate alone.

Sharing this story is my way of encouraging other women to rise in faith and step boldly into their purpose. Whether in business, ministry, or motherhood, God equips us for what He calls us to do. Our obedience matters, even when the path is unclear. Our faith becomes testimony when we act, and our courage inspires generations.

TAWEEI is more than an initiative; it is a movement, a calling answered, and a reflection of God’s glory. My prayer is that every woman reading this feels emboldened to trust her own call, step forward with courage, and watch God unfold miracles in her life.
