7 Steps to a More Intentional Beauty Routine
Because when God lives in you, whatever glow you have comes from Him.
Lets face it, we live in a world that pushes filters, perfection, and always looking put together. Like you’re supposed to have it all together before you even step outside. But God isn’t asking for perfect. He’s asking for real. He’s inviting His daughters to slow down, breathe, and come back to themselves.
Beauty isn’t about putting on a show. It’s about how you show up. How you care for yourself. How you carry what God placed inside you. These aren’t rules. They’re just simple habits that help me reset when life feels loud or heavy. Take what fits. Leave what doesn’t.
1. Cleanse and Talk to God
Before I wash my face, I try to pause. Not always long. Sometimes it’s just a breath. As the water hits my skin, I talk to God about what’s sitting in my head. The stress. The doubt. The things I don’t even have words for yet. I ask Him to help me let some of it go. Some days it’s not my face that needs cleaning. It’s my thoughts.
Ask yourself:
What am I carrying that I don’t need to hold today?
Am I trying to fix myself or trust God with it?
2. Moisturize and Slow Down
When I put on lotion or oil, I don’t rush it anymore. I remind myself that I’m allowed to take care of me. This is usually when I realize how much I’ve been giving out without stopping. I’ll quietly say, “God, help me feel steady again.” Nothing fancy. Just honest.
Ask yourself:
Where has my energy been going lately?
When was the last time I let myself refill?
3. Look in the Mirror Without Being Hard on Yourself
The mirror can be rough if we let it be. Instead of picking myself apart, I try to say one kind thing. Even if it feels awkward. Even if I don’t fully believe it yet. God doesn’t look at me the way I sometimes look at myself. I need that reminder more than I like to admit.
Ask yourself:
What does God see when He looks at me?
What thought do I need to stop repeating?
4. Let Rest Count
Rest isn’t laziness. It’s trust. Some nights that means going to bed earlier. Other nights it means putting the phone down and sitting in quiet. I’ve learned the hard way that pushing through exhaustion only makes everything worse. God doesn’t need me burned out to prove anything.
Ask yourself:
What do I need to lay down tonight ?
Am I resting or still trying to prove myself ?
5. Get Dressed Without the Pressure
I don’t dress to impress people anymore. I dress to feel like myself. Some days that’s simple. Some days it’s a little more effort. Either way, I ask if what I’m wearing feels comfortable, confident, and true, not forced or insecure.
Ask yourself:
Am I dressing for approval or for peace?
Does this feel like me today?
6. Let Getting Ready Be Quiet Time
Doing my hair or makeup used to feel rushed. Now I try to let it be calm. I don’t overthink it. I just slow down. Sometimes I pray. Sometimes I just breathe. Sometimes I ask God to help me see clearly and speak kindly that day.
Ask yourself:
Do I feel okay showing up as I am?
What part of me needs a little grace today?
7. Pause Before You Walk Out the Door
Before jewelry or perfume, I stop for a second. I take a breath and say something simple like, “God, guide me today.” That’s it. No long prayer. Just a reminder that I’m not doing life alone.
Ask yourself:
Where do I need confidence today?
What would it look like to walk in peace?
A Simple Check In
Morning:
Wash your face and breathe
Get dressed without rushing
Invite God into the day
Evening:
Wash the day off
Sit in quiet for a few minutes
Go to rest without guilt
Mirror reminders:
I belong to God
I don’t have to perform
I’m allowed to take care of myself
This isn’t about getting it right every day. Some days you’ll rush. Some days you’ll forget. That’s okay. It’s just about paying attention. Taking care of your heart while you take care of your body. Letting small moments slow you down and remind you who you are.
Prayer
God, thank You for this body and this life. Help me care for myself without guilt or pressure. Help me see myself the way You see me. Let my days feel calmer and my steps feel steady. Walk with me today. Amen.
