Shutting Out the Noise—and Finding Your Soul Refreshment

There was a time in my life when the noise never stopped. My phone buzzed constantly, my to-do list felt endless, and even my quiet moments were filled with restless thoughts. I thought this was just how life was supposed to be—busy, chaotic, always moving. But one morning, as I sat in prayer, God gently reminded me, “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). In that stillness, everything shifted.
You ever feel like the world is just… loud? Like, nonstop noise swirling around you from the moment your eyes open to the moment they close? Emails, texts, social media, deadlines, expectations—it’s exhausting, right?
I want you to know something: You don’t have to live like that. In fact, God never meant for us to. He calls us to something deeper—to come away from all that noise and be still. But how often do we actually stop and listen?
Jesus Modeled Sacred Stillness
Even with crowds chasing Him, miracles happening left and right, Jesus still took time to step away, to find quiet. That quiet wasn’t just a break; it was sacred. It was where He reconnected with the Father, refilled His spirit, and received His next assignment.
Purpose requires protection. You have to protect your peace like a treasure because it’s a gift from God. But protecting it means shutting out the noise. And no, I’m not talking about running away from life. I’m talking about checking into God, creating those intentional pockets of stillness where you can hear His voice clearly.
I want to be honest—there was a season in my life when I was doing all the right things but felt… empty. Busyness became my badge of honor, and God? He was just a line item on my to-do list. But when I finally chose to silence the noise, to really make space for Him, something shifted. I heard His whisper again. Not in a big dramatic way—just a gentle, powerful whisper that healed and directed me.
How to Create Sacred Quiet
Start by unplugging. Turn off those notifications. Delete apps if you need to. Give God the space that scrolling and scrolling has stolen from your soul.
Begin and end your day with stillness. Whether it’s a quick prayer, some worship music, or just sitting quietly—make mornings and evenings your holy ground.
Be careful who you let in. Not everyone deserves a spot in your inner circle. Surround yourself with voices that build you up, not tear you down or clutter your mind.
Protect your yes. Every time you say yes to something, you’re saying no to something else. Say yes to peace. Yes to prayer. Yes to purpose.
And find your soul refreshment rituals. Maybe it’s a walk in nature, journaling your prayers, or a playlist that lifts your spirit. Whatever it is, make it sacred. Make it yours.
Soul Refreshment Is Alignment
Soul refreshment isn’t about perfect moments or fancy vacations (though those are lovely). It’s about alignment—knowing you’re exactly where God wants you, doing what He created you for, without striving or performing.
Isaiah 30:15 tells us, “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.” That’s the heart of soul refreshment—peace that doesn’t depend on the chaos around you.
This week, I challenge you to pick one hour to unplug. No phone, no distractions—just you, your journal, and Jesus. Ask Him, “Lord, what noise do I need to silence so I can hear You again?” Then listen. Write down what He shows you. And obey. Because that obedience? That’s where peace lives.
You don’t have to answer every call, reply to every message, or be everywhere all the time. You were never meant to live connected to the noise of this world. You were made to be connected to Him.
So this is your invitation—to step back, to embrace holy quiet, to let your soul breathe, sharpen your vision, and welcome your joy back.
Shut out the noise. Lean into stillness. Find your soul refreshment—not in applause, but in the whisper of your Father’s voice saying, “This is the way, walk in it.” (Isaiah 30:21)
Let’s pray together:
Lord, quiet my soul. Teach me the beauty of stillness. Help me hear You more clearly than the noise around me. Lead me to that sacred space where my peace rests only in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
