Relationship Coach Renee Miller Creates the Love Camp Retreats, Combining Healing Black Love Relationships with the Love of Travel

Deeply concerned over the unhealthy direction in which Black love relationships in the U.S. have been heading over the past 15 or so years, Renee Miller, CEO of Remember You Are, LLC, who holds a certification as a professional coach, (PCC), created the first Love Camp held in October 2022, which she says was an invitation to explore and experience some best practices around living life and finding love for black women and men.

Wanting to address the overriding issues in Black love relationships and the seemingly increasing narrative in popular culture, that single Black women are somehow less desirable and less worthy of love and marriage than women of other cultures, Miller saw it as her purpose and mission to try to do something about it.

“Black female and male love relationships are in trouble and as a certified love coach, I want to be part of the solution and help people confront and address the realities of that fact,” says Miller. “By attracting Black professionals between the ages of 30 and 60, who love to travel, learn and want to build healthy relationships, we can begin to help our women and men find healthy ways to see each other again and heal from past traumas so that we can love ourselves and each other better. This will ultimately lead to healthier individuals, families, and communities,” said Miller.

To that end, Miller created The Love Camp concept–a unique series of retreats comprised of domestic and international excursions steeped in cultural pride and exploration, unique dining experiences, and emphasis on mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness, all interspersed with enjoyable and thought-provoking daily interactive Love Camp curriculum sessions.  Now beginning its second year, the first Love Camp was held in October 2022 in Tanzania, Africa.

“We are extremely pleased with the success and response from our first Love Camp held in Tanzania, Africa, where participants were treated to experiencing various aspects in three regions of the beautiful Tanzania country and culture over 10 days,” shared Miller. “Our first Love Camp retreat was amazing and because of the wonderful expertise of our travel partner, TAI Tours, participants traveled to Kilimanjaro in the northern part of Tanzania, then to Zanzibar, then on to the metropolitan city of Dar Es Salaam, and finally to the city of Bagamoyo, where they visited slave dungeons and learned about the slave trade of East Africa, etc.  In addition to participating in the Love Camp curriculum held throughout the day, guests also got a chance to participate in African Yoga every morning; experience Tanzanian culture by meeting the local Maasai tribe; participate in a real safari, hiked up Mount Meru to the sacred waterfalls in Kilimanjaro; had a day of service at a local orphanage in Kilimanjaro; checked out Tanzanian cuisine at quaint local restaurants in the three regions, as well as famous upscale spots like The Rock Restaurant located in on a rock in the Indian Ocean off a beach in Zanzibar. Depending on the time and tide of the day, guests can either walk to and from the restaurant or take a boat back.

Love Camp Retreats in 2023 include one in Savannah, GA  from June 22-25 back to Tanzania, Africa, October 3-13,and Bali/Thailand from December 10-22. Additionally, the Love Camp retreats are intentionally designed to accommodate a small group of about 10 to 20 people.

“Having a small group of about 20 people for our Love Camp retreats, allows us to focus on and provide solutions to the seven essential topics surrounding developing healthy relationships,” says Miller. “These include vulnerability, communication, respect, safety, trust, honesty, and attraction, and as a result, we are looking forward to sharing this experience and sharing what we’ve learned with participants of The Love Camp retreats at our various destinations in 2023,” Miller said.

Also, she hosts The Love Camp Group and the Black Love Matters Panel Discussions on Facebook. Miller said she was not only excited about the enlightenment, introspection, healing, and overall response by those who participated in the first Love Camp, but also the opportunity to certify two men as Love Coaches.

“The Love Camp curriculum included working through a detailed workbook, as well as receiving an optional certification,” said Miller.  “We are also very excited about certifying two new love coaches during the trip, which we hope to be the first of thousands of love coaches in the future, who can help guide others in creating healthy lives and loving relationships around the country and the world,” she continued.  “Starting with 20 people at a time, may not seem like much, but on a macro level, I hope to be able to touch thousands if not millions of lives, through sharing best love practices so individuals, relationships, and communities can be healthier. Likewise, on a micro level, I hope to dismantle some of the stereotypes and redefine what healthy love looks like for black women and men ” Miller said.
