Not Every Sower Is From God: Sower vs. Opportunist

I remember those phone calls—long conversations where they said all the right things. “I love what you’re doing. I want to be a part of it. I’ll sow into every opportunity you provide on your platform.”
At first, it sounded like divine support. And yes, they sowed money. They even invited me to events—seemingly out of encouragement. But after every interaction, I felt off. My spirit would be drained, not refreshed. Confused, not clear.
They asked a lot of questions—too many. Instead of feeling poured into, I felt like they were pulling from me. Extracting more than they were depositing.
I began to question myself: Am I just tired? Am I overthinking this?
Until one day, in prayer, God spoke clearly:
“They’re an opportunist. Beware.”
That moment hit me like truth and freedom wrapped in one. Suddenly everything made sense. They weren’t sowing from the Spirit—they were sowing from strategy. Not to serve—but to secure a position they hadn’t been called to occupy.
Sis, just because someone sows into you doesn’t mean they’re sent by God.
When Sowing Comes with Strings
There’s a kind of sowing that looks generous but carries a hidden motive. It shows up like support but moves like control. Some people sow to attach themselves to your promise—not to advance God’s purpose.
They don’t love your mission—they’re strategically investing in what they believe will elevate them.
Listen…
If their sowing leaves you spiritually heavy, emotionally confused, or mentally drained—that’s not God.
That’s spiritual interference.
Don’t spiritualize your uneasiness. Call it what it is:
A red flag wrapped in a gift bag.
True Sowers Sow in Silence
True sowers are led by the Spirit, not ego. They don’t need a seat. They don’t remind you of what they gave. They don’t shift on you when you grow—they intercede when you rise.
You’ll know them by the peace they carry and the absence of pressure they bring.
True sowers:
- Sow with no strings attached
- Release without reminders
- Cheer without controlling
- Give without expecting access
They don’t use seed as strategy. They move in the Spirit.
Check Your Soil
Before you allow someone to sow, check both the condition of your soil and the posture of their spirit.
Ask yourself:
- Do I feel peace or pressure after they sow?
- Does this feel like support or surveillance?
- Am I being honored—or harvested?
Not every seed is safe. Not every giver is God-sent. And not every opportunity is ordained.
Red Flags of an Opportunist Sower
- Their generosity feels performative, not prayerful
- You feel spiritually heavy after interactions
- They remind you of what they’ve given
- They ask for access subtly or suddenly
- Their presence causes pressure, not peace
- They disappear when you say “no”
How to Respond When God Says ‘Beware’
- Pause before receiving. Pray over every seed.
- Test the fruit. Don’t be swayed by flattery.
- Set boundaries early. You are not for sale.
- Trust your spirit. Discernment is powerful.
When God gives a warning—heed it.
Guard the Ground God Gave You
Your calling is sacred. Your soil has been watered with tears, obedience, and spiritual warfare. Not every hand deserves to touch it. Opportunists will see your purpose as a platform—and try to buy their way in with a seed.
But remember what God told me:
“They’re an opportunist. Beware.”
Return the seed. Close the door. Protect your soil.
You’ve come too far to let manipulation plant itself where only purpose should grow.
You Are a Gatekeeper of Glory
You don’t just carry influence—you carry oil.
You don’t just lead—you’ve been anointed.
You don’t owe anyone access to what God built with your surrender.
If the Spirit says beware—listen.
Even if it’s a check. Even if it’s a big gift. Even if they say all the right things.
A Prayer for the Discerning Woman
Father,
Thank You for the gift of discernment. Strengthen my ears to hear You—even when it’s hard. Teach me to test the seed and discern the spirit behind it. Expose every agenda that seeks to attach itself to what You’ve anointed me to carry. I release every seed that came with strings and take hold of Your peace. I trust Your voice above every flattering word.
When You say beware, I will not delay.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Declare This Out Loud:
“I will not be swayed by seed.
I will not be moved by manipulation.
I will protect my soil.
I will discern every connection.
And I will guard my God-given ground.”
You’re Not Wrong for Guarding Your Gift
You’re not ungrateful. You’re guarding what’s holy. It’s not personal—it’s spiritual protection. You don’t owe anyone access to the precious soil God has entrusted to you. Protect it like the treasure it is.
