Natima Sheree on Her Book Beneath the Crown: Her Story. Her Power. Her Voice
TODAY’S PURPOSE WOMAN is proud to celebrate and promote authors who are impacting the lives of others both on and off the paper. In our series, Powerhouse Authors, we highlight and chat with remarkable authors about their books and why they feel it is needed in today’s world.
We recently spoke with Natima Sheree, a lover of literature and an advocate for independent authors dedicated to aiding writers in sharing their stories and literary gifts with the world through her boutique consulting firm, Transparent Gem Inc.
Natima is an author herself, designated as Queen Pen. She co-wrote the Amazon best seller Mascara: Beat Face. Broken Soul and compiled and contributed to the anthologies Pretty Broken: Transforming Scars to Beauty Marks and Beneath the Crown: Her Story. Her Power. Her Voice.
Beneath the Crown: Her Story. Her Power. Her Voice, is an anthology Natima compiled and co-wrote in partnership with her women’s focused literary community, the Diamond Writers. It is a collection of transparent and authentic stories of self-discovery, empowerment, shadow work, character-building, and healing. Beneath the Crown is full of testimony about God’s grace, favor, and love.
Book Excerpt
“A Queen is a vibe, an unparalleled energetic force in female form. Her invisible Crown adorns her head like an ornament of confident and inherent worth. Know that you are a Queen, capable of anything and unstoppable. You are a light, a force and creator. Your past does not define you, who you used to be cannot hinder you. You have the power to redirect your life and rewrite the narrative if you so choose.”
– Natima Sheree, Beneath the Crown: Her Story. Her Power. Her Voice.
Below is our conversation with Natima about her book and why she feels it is essential in today’s world. Read the full interview below.
What inspired you to compile and contribute to Beneath the Crown: Her Story. Her Power. Her Voice?
I believe writing is an aid for healing. Many of my stories were written during dark or difficult times and were an inspiration to me when I revisited them. I thought to myself, ” If I am inspired by my own words drafted from my own experiences, I believe they may inspire others.” And so I decided to publish my stories to inspire and empower women. From the success of my first book, I compiled an anthology, “Pretty Broken: Transforming Scars to Beauty Marks,” and launched a women’s writing collective, the Diamond Writers. I compiled and contributed to our sophomore publication, “Beneath the Crown: Her Story. Her Power. Her Voice,” in April 2022.
Why do you feel this book is an essential read?
This book is essential, critical even, in changing the narrative and the stories told by popular culture and social media. One that diminishes individuality and self-respect and tells women that they are only beautiful if they are insta-models, or only worthy if they have a man. Popular culture continues to tell women that individuality and uniqueness are bad, or wrong, or unfavorable. This book rejects the social norms and ideologies that teach conformity. Women need to know they are not alone; that they are special and valuable no matter what.
Who did you write this book for, and what do you want them to be able to take away after reading it?
I wrote/compiled this book for any woman who has ever felt invisible, overlooked, unheard, or undervalued. The woman who feels trapped or stifled, paralyzed in her growth or stalled in her career. I wrote this for the young lady who doesn’t fit in at school or on campus and questions her worth. I want them to read these stories and know that there is no one in the world like them and what they have, what they possess, the world needs. I want them to never lose sight of their goals, to find their voice and use it to inspire, edify, encourage, and motivate others.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the readers?
I would love to mention that Transparent Gem Inc. and the Diamond Writers will be releasing our third anthology “Valid Transparency” in spring 2023. I would also like to mention that we have a book club, the Book Babes, and a podcast, Hustle & Shine, that we leverage to stay connected to our readers and supporters.
Lastly, Transparent Gem Inc. will be opening the Diamond Loft, a literary café, in the summer of 2023 in the Atlanta, GA area.
