Here’s How to Let the Holy Spirit Lead You

There are two ways you can live your life: according to God’s word or according to worldly standards. To be honest, just because you surrender your life to Christ and receive the Holy Spirit does not mean your life will be easy. As women of faith, we face numerous challenges. However, God knew exactly what lay ahead of us, which is why He sent us the Holy Spirit to guide us—an aid and a friend. The Holy Spirit  guides us towards holiness, regenerates and renews us as Christians, comforts us, and does so much more.

When you are about to give up, the Holy Spirit will remind you of God’s word—Galatians 6:9, Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

When you feel like there is no hope or that you have no purpose in life, the Holy Spirit will remind you of what God says about you.

When the enemy says you won’t make it, the Holy Spirit assures you that you will live and not die.

When jealously or envy arises in you, the Holy Spirit will remind you that what God has for you is for you, so stay focused on your task.

When others betray you, the Holy Spirit will remind you that the Lord will handle everything if you keep your eyes fixed on Him.

Worried about your marriage, children, finances, work, business, ministry, health, etc? The Holy Spirit can bring about peace, joy, and consolation.

But here is the thing:

In all that we do, we need to let the Holy Spirit direct us. The Holy Spirit will not impose or force us to do anything we do not want to do. To experience this precious gift God has left for us, we must invite the Holy Spirit into our lives and build a relationship.

So, how do you form a relationship and follow the Holy Spirit?

Meditate on the Word of God

We are able to move from the things of the world to the spiritual things of God by obeying God’s word.  The power of the Holy Spirit is activated in your life by the word of God. You must read God’s word and meditate on it day and night so that the Holy Spirit can bring it to your mind and lead you in the right path. 1:8 (Joshua)

Pray

Prayer is a way of admitting that you cannot do something, but God can. When you pray, God sends his Holy Spirit to counsel and lead you in the right path.
Ask God to open your spiritual eyes and ears so that you can hear the Holy Spirit prompting and counseling you in the spirit.

Be a Doer of the Word

You must be a doer of the word, not just a reader of it.  According to James, we should not only be hearers of the word, but also doers. But what does it mean to be a doer of the word? (James 1:22-25)  It entails putting what you read in the Bible into action. When you become a doer of the word, the Holy Spirit guides you to greater heights than you could have dreamed. Practicing God’s word unleashes the power of the Holy Spirit in your life, and he can lead you and help you pray when you can’t.

Following the Holy Spirit’s Prompting

Have you ever wanted to do something but changed your mind because it didn’t seem right? Or perhaps you did something but afterwards regretted it because you heard a small voice cautioning you against taking that step but chose to ignore it.

We must be conscious of the Holy Spirit’s promptings in order to avoid making errors. Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit to be our guide and friend, to teach us everything. (John 14:26)

Do not rush into any decisions. Follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit so that you can make decisions that are consistent with God’s word.

Allowing God’s Spirit to lead you will enable you to do remarkable things for His Kingdom.
