For 20 Years, Xenia Barnes Has Been Elevating the Mindset of Others in Her Community

Elevating the mindsets of others is something Xenia Barnes has been actively doing for the past 20 years in her community. She is the co-founder of the Melquain Jatelle Anderson Foundation (MJAF), director of Human Resources for KKSQ Creative Tech Corp in Atlanta, Georgia, and CEO and founder of Gold Mind Thoughts.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, as far back as her adolescent years, Xenia can recall elevating the mindset of others. At 16 years old, she facilitated GED preparation classes for adults in her community. She also recalls using her passion and love for dance to teach her peers and other youths how to channel their emotions via movement and music.

It is Xenia’s goal to support individuals with developing the tools they need to save themselves via EDUCATION and SOCIAL EMOTIONAL GROWTH. As co-founder of the Melquain Jatelle Anderson Foundation (MJAF), Xenia provides human services and educational resources to adolescents and seniors in the Brooklyn communities. Through the organization in 2017, Xenia utilized her educational background and community ties to fight against gun violence via education as the Chief Communication Officer. She does this work because she takes PRIDE in her community. Equally important, she takes PRIDE in being a vessel to encourage, educate, and elevate the youth.

Xenia has received several recognition and awards for her hard work and dedication to her community. She has received a citation from the Brooklyn Borough President, Eric Adams, for outstanding achievement and contributions to the community, a Safe in the City Citation for outstanding community service during the pandemic, and Community Activist Citation for outstanding community organizing against gun violence.

I believe it’s my willingness to be vulnerable and embrace discomfort and change that makes me most relatable to others.

Although Xenia has been actively working in her community for over two decades, she shares that she has faced challenges. Over the past four years, Xenia has suffered from depression, anxiety, self-doubt, suicidal thoughts, and an illness that should have already claimed her life. “The moment I decided to stop viewing my circumstances as something that was just happening to me, I was able to turn my perception of these events into a lesson for myself.” By confronting her fears and a great deal of self-reflection, Xenia redefined her life’s purpose. “God has given me the strength to rebuild myself with a new purpose. I believe that the only thing He asks of me is to pay it forward.”

Xenia, a woman of resilience, uses those lessons to coach others through her company Gold Mind Thoughts as the Golden Mindset Coach. “I pour all my life lessons and experiences into helping others push their thinking to gain the skills they need to save themselves,” she says. “The goal is to stop living your life as a bystander and recondition the mindset to view obstacles with a positive interpretation of life. A major part of this process is believing you can make changes in your life, plan for the changes and take action. Commitment, Follow Through, Effective Planning, and Accountability are all major contributors to greater successful outcomes and overcoming negative thinking, self-doubt, and self-sabotage.” Through Xenia’s “Elevating Mindsets” coaching/training package, she helps others recondition their way of thinking through the elevation of thought process, perspective, and accountability.

Xenia is not only an Educational Leader and coach but a Mother, a Faith Leader in the community, and Activist fighting against the systematic oppression of Black and Brown people.
