Dr. Velma Bagby on The Catch No One Wants, Her Highly Anticipated New Book

Award-Winning Author, certified Christian Dating-Relationship Coach, Minister and Inspirational Speaker, Dr. Velma Bagby’s new, highly anticipated book, The “CATCH” No One Wants, releases by April 2022. The “CATCH” No One Wants (Christian Fiction) is the story of Veronica Dawson’s wrong choices in men. It highlights the unusual fishing trip her father, Greyson Dawson, uses to give her direction in finding the husband she deserves. Veronica, a PK (pastor’s kid), frantically searches for potential husbands in all the wrong places—a 32-year-old successful millennial obsessed with getting married because she has already missed her original goal… to be a wife by thirty. Her father Greyson watches those men mistreat his daughter; frustrated, he seeks God’s direction.

Greyson’s answered prayers prompted him to use what he knows as an expert fisher. He invites Veronica on a two-day fishing trip to plan a one-on-one intervention. She does not know that her dad is on a mission to rescue her through their Christian faith and teaching about dating with the intent to marry. As a seasoned fisher, Greyson sees the behavioral similarities between men and fish. He invents five metaphorical stories he shares with his daughter on their trip. Four stories represent the men she has dated: the Catfish, who enjoys hanging around garbage, the Salmon who does not want to get caught, the Sturgeon who likes to nibble, & the Pufferfish, who is beautiful until agitated—all highlight the dating mistakes his daughter continues making even now. The fifth story, the Goldfish, represents the husband she deserves. He is the man God has chosen just for her. Even though he did not meet her idea of what she looked for in a husband, he was standing right in front of her the entire time.

Dr. Velma wrote The “CATCH” No One Wants, for single women interested in discovering their husbands, God’s way. She believes the stories in this book will open the eyes of single women who have faced similar challenges in their dating lives and will give them better tools to use. “The book takes us back to the original principles of dating, something the church practiced and taught in the past. It shows a pastor who wants to ensure his children and the singles in his church were taught the difference between dating socially and dating with the intent to marry. Dating for marriage changes the strategies, the goal, the questions, and the approach to dating. The principles of a date with intent focus are explained in more detail through the lives of the book characters and even more in the Homework Basket.”

Dr. Velma has 30+ years of ministering to single women, providing pre-marriage and marriage counseling. Dr. Velma has personally seen the danger and misery of choosing outside what God wants. She, therefore, speaks with authority anchored on first-hand experience when ministering to singles or speaking to couples, “It’s like having over ten keys on a keyring, but only knowing where two or three of them fit. God has given believers the keys, but we do not know what keys are used to unlock certain doors. Or we attempt to use the wrong key on the wrong door. And some simply do not know how to use a key,” she says.

“God describes His word as wisdom and provides believers wise guidance through it. He also calls the person who does not accept His wisdom “a fool”. The Bible has plenty of stories of people who failed to obey and warnings about the consequences they suffered because of disobedience.” There are two metaphorical stories in Dr. Velma’s book where we see firsthand, the tragic outcomes of wrong choices. “We make wrong choices, and it is very prevalent today, but thank God for his grace and mercy, because it is important to note that there is always room for redemption—change.”

Dr. Velma loves storytelling and uses her imagination to present an important message. Her inspiration comes in recognizing that Jesus was a Master Storyteller who used relatable things in stories with deeper meaning.
