Mrs. South Carolina America Bethany Thomas on Overcoming Infertility, and Empowering Women Through Compassion
Unveiling a journey of resilience, perseverance and purpose, Bethany Thomas, Mrs. South Carolina America, shares her deeply personal voyage of transforming personal anguish into a mission of compassion. A mother of two, Bethany has weathered trials of infertility and loss, experiences that have not only shaped her but also ignited a passion to help others facing similar challenges. “God called upon me to share the most painful chapters of my story, to bring hope and positivity to others on their family-building journey,” she shares.
Driven by this newfound purpose, Bethany founded the VOICE Peer-led Support Group, a sanctuary for women navigating the paths of infertility, loss, adoption, and fostering. With a community of over 50 women so far, the group meets monthly in a virtual space of shared stories and warm support. “It’s a blessing to have such a safe community of support,” she says.
Her philanthropic endeavors don’t stop there. Bethany is also part of the Isaiah 117 House York County, an organization providing a safe haven for children transitioning into foster care. “My heart aches for children in need of a warm environment. Isaiah 117 offers just that – a loving haven as they await foster placement,” she explains. The organization aligns with her faith-driven mandate, inspired by James 1:27, to care for orphans in their distress.
As the reigning Mrs. South Carolina America, Bethany utilizes her title to inspire, motivate, and spread positivity. “It’s an immense blessing and an opportunity to encounter wonderful people,” she reveals. With a servant’s heart and a radiant crown, she aims to inspire others to chase their dreams and cultivate kindness.
Her decision to vie for the title of Mrs. South Carolina came from her lifelong passion for pageantry and the chance to use a larger platform to inspire women facing struggles similar to her own. “I knew my competition days weren’t over. I had a story to share, and a desire to encourage other women on their own family-building journeys,” she says.
Faith plays a pivotal role in Bethany’s journey, providing solace during her darkest times and guiding her passion to assist others. “My faith carried me through the depths of despair that infertility can bring. My trust in God’s plan revealed that He is always working behind the scenes, shaping me into the woman He created me to be,” she reflects.
A testament to taking control of her health, Bethany embraced a plant-based lifestyle after battling endometriosis and infertility. “After exhausting all medical options, I decided to eliminate things from my diet that didn’t serve me. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made,” she shares, displaying a willingness to discuss her vegan journey with the curious.
To women who identify with her story, she opens her heart and extends an invitation to connect. “There’s immense encouragement and hope in sharing with someone who has walked in your shoes,” she says.
As for what’s next, Bethany tease, “I have several appearances and events coming up, leading up to our 2024 pageant. It’s hard to believe we’ll crown the new Mrs. South Carolina America on May 5!”
She leaves us with a heartfelt message, urging everyone to prioritize their relationship with God. “Carve out time to pray and immerse yourself in the Word. Once you find that integral part of your daily routine, you’ll start the day feeling more grounded, ready for whatever comes your way.”
