Here’s How to Awaken the Prophetic Calling in You

In the Bible, we see a number of powerful prophetic women, whose ministries had a significant impact on the Kingdom of God. From Deborah, the prophetess who led Israel to victory, to Anna, who recognized the Messiah when He was just a child, women have always been active in God’s prophetic work. This article encourages all women who are prophetic or who are exploring their prophetic gifts.

Embrace Your Prophetic Calling

The Bible makes it clear that God can and does call women to serve as prophets. Consider Deborah in the book of Judges (Judges 4:4-5), who was a prophetess and a judge over Israel, or Huldah (2 Kings 22:14-20), who was sought out by King Josiah himself to interpret the Word of God. These women were chosen by God to speak His words to His people.

In Acts 2:17, the scripture says, “In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy.” This scripture affirms that both men and women have the ability to prophesy, as it is a gift from God that is shared with all believers.

Develop Your Prophetic Gift

As with any spiritual gift, the gift of prophecy requires practice and development. Make it a habit to spend time in prayer and in God’s word. Seek guidance and mentorship from mature believers who can help you understand and grow in your prophetic gift.

In 1 Corinthians 14:1, Apostle Paul encourages us to, “Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.” This scripture encourages believers to desire and pursue the gift of prophecy, not just for personal edification, but for the edification of the entire body of Christ.

Use Your Gift to Edify Others

Prophecy is not about foretelling the future, but rather it is about revealing what God is saying to His people in the present. It is a gift that is meant to encourage, comfort, and strengthen others.

As stated in 1 Corinthians 14:3, “But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.” Use your prophetic gift to uplift, inspire, and comfort those around you.

Trust In God’s Guidance

Walking in prophecy requires complete trust in God. Remember that it is He who gives the gift and it is He who will guide you in using it. Do not fear making mistakes, but instead learn from them and continue to grow in your gift.

In Proverbs 3:5-6, we are reminded to “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” This scripture assures us that as we trust in God and submit to His will, He will guide our steps.

In conclusion, to all the women who are prophetic, know that you have a unique and powerful calling to share God’s Word. Embrace your gift, develop it, use it to edify others, and trust in God’s guidance. Your voice is essential in God’s Kingdom. He has chosen you for such a time as this.

Have you been called to the office of a prophet or operate in the prophetic gift? How did you develop and nurture your gift and calling?
