Dr. Janell N. Harvey On Her Book Historicity, Incorporation and Fund Development: A Broad Look at the Christian Faith-based Sector
Dr. Janell NaKia Harvey is the mother of two boys and the wife of Elder Terrence Harvey. At the age of six, she began writing and has published several things, from poetry to journal articles and books. She’s worked in education for twenty years while teaching adult education and high school students.
Her passion is faith-based organizations and their sustainability. She believes that it’s time to level the playing field so that those working within the realms of faith-based organizations have the resources they need to sustain. Dr. Harvey recounts how God blessed her to launch a job as an Executive Director of a non-profit organization right out of college. “Through that position, I learned the fundamentals of non-profit organization and leadership.” Years later, when she obtained her doctoral degree, she worked with a faith-based organization and coordinated an action research project that helped them detect fraud within their agency while reorganizing their Standard Operating Procedures. Highlights from her research were incorporated into the book.
Because Dr. Harvey often works with leaders of faith who do not understand the fundamentals of non-profit management. Her goal is to help educate them while leading them to the resources they need. This is why in 2018, Dr. Harvey released her book entitled Historicity, Incorporation and Fund Development: A Broad Look at the Christian Faith-based Sector. Dr. Harvey incorporates biblical principles that show leaders how to incorporate, market, and raise funds for their organization in the book. Both men and women who plan to establish a faith-based organization with integrity can use the book to build and sustain their initiative. “It’s a lengthy title, but feedback from readers suggests that it was worthwhile,” she says. “A woman contacted me while she was completing her doctoral degree in non-profit leadership. She found it handy. Several pastors have also given me positive feedback.”
Although released in 2018, Dr. Harvey shares that Historicity, Incorporation and Fund Development: A Broad Look at the Christian Faith-based Sector is still essential today. “I read an article that indicated entrepreneurship has risen tremendously since the pandemic. Those who feel led to establishing initiatives that are Christian based will find the contents insightful.”
