How Melissa Myers, Candidate for State Representative District 40 in the State of Florida, is Putting Her Passion into Action
For over a decade, Melissa S. Myers has served as a community leader, advocating for the needs of people. Her passion and love for taking care of the community and being there for others, whether neighborhood cleanups, food drives, going before the commission to advocate for others in the community, or protesting, has led her to become a candidate for state representative, District 40 in the State of Florida.
“It started with me just caring. I didn’t know that this would lead into politics because it wasn’t my plan, but God knew,” Myers says.
Let’s Put Our Passion into Action
Myers isn’t making political promises of what she will do if she wins the seat. Living up to her campaign slogan, “Let’s Put Our Passion into Action”, Myers is already bringing awareness, education, and resources to her community while on the campaign trail. “What I’m doing now is working with major corporations and other community leaders. I am working on putting programs in place now because we have needs now,” Myers says. For example, Myers shares that she is working on a career development program with a major organization that will offer high school graduates who aren’t college-bound an opportunity to get hired by the company. “Not only will they be paid a salary and offered benefits, but they will also receive training in several verticals, whether construction, HR, accounting, or marketing. They will be paid and trained while learning the craft.” She is also working closely with others to create additional programs, including youth programs and providing more mental health services.
This is not my campaign, this is God’s campaign.
Myers is a woman of faith who strongly believes in being led by God both on the campaign trail and once she wins the seat. “I tell people all the time. This is not my campaign, this is God’s campaign because, literally, He’ll wake me up three o’clock in the morning with an idea, or I’ll be in my kitchen cooking, and I’m grabbing my phone because He’s given me script—some words to say in my next video.” Experiencing this encourages Myers. This is why she strongly feels that despite what others think, if God calls you or chooses you to do something, whether a community leader, holding a political office, etc., follow God’s path. He will see you throughout the entire process. “We have to be the change,” she says. “We can’t sit back and continue to watch our communities dwindle and be worried about what people are going to say or think when God has blessed us with the capacity and equipped us with the power, knowledge, and strength to do what He has chosen us to do,” she says.
Myers’ heart and work speak for themselves. “If you don’t see anything else or like anything else about me, one thing that you have to give me credit for is the work and the compassion that I have put into our communities,” she says. Myers is an individual that’s not just targeting one community. Her vision is to ensure everyone is taken care of. “When God blesses us to a certain level of success, He doesn’t bless us to keep it all to ourselves,” she says. He blesses us to take care of others, so I’m doing what I was chosen to do.”
The mother of five, owner of a staffing firm, community leader, and now candidate for state representative is definitely a woman worth watching. We are looking forward to seeing how God continues to elevate and use her as a beacon of hope in today’s world.
Myers’ campaign welcomes volunteers in any capacity, including donations. Donations are poured back into providing education, awareness, and resources for the community.
