Previously, she had been deeply involved in Hospice healthcare and held many certifications, including Physical Therapy Aide, Pharmacy Technician, and Property Management. Her innate desire to help others led her to found ‘Diamond With Purpose,’ a group dedicated to encouraging young girls to serve their community and learn from career-minded women.
“When I’m not writing, I spend my time traveling with my husband and children, and indulging in musicals,” Shawana shares. “These experiences are what enrich my storytelling and bring a fresh perspective to my work.”
Shawana has a profound belief in the power of family. “I wanted to see more children and parents enjoy bonding through literacy. Family is the foundation and a key component of our lives. If our children feel valued, loved, seen, and heard, they grow up to be healthy adults. This contributes to a healthier world and future,” she reflects.
She also turns to her faith for guidance. “Compassion and prayer guide my decision-making. I always pray first and ask for direction. Whatever the decision, I strive to be compassionate to the receiver in both my personal life and professional.”
Indeed, her faith also permeates her work. “I incorporate my faith into my work by writing children’s books that show how respecting your parents and elders is a great example for us all. I try to portray God’s characteristics – Love, Kindness, Guidance, through life. Telling a child their potential is limitless reminds them that they are wonderfully made. They are more likely to help others in need or grow into adults who can change the world.”
Shawana has high hopes for her contribution to future generations. “I plan to continue publishing more books for children that encourage them and remind them that family time is not just a past-time story that adults speak about in passing. It is an experience they can take part in and actually enjoy. I hope to inspire other women to come forward and proudly share their stories without fear of judgement.”
