2024 Woman to Watch : Gwendolyn Grimes
In the heart of Akron, Ohio, a spiritual revolution is taking place, and at the heart of it is Gwendolyn Grimes, an ordained elder at the City of Joy Life Enrichment Center. As the lead of the Intercessory Prayer Ministry and an Advisory Board member of IPrevail 365, a nonprofit organization, she is an inspiring figure in her community and beyond. With two books to her name, she’s an author whose words have guided hundreds of women in prayer. Gwendolyn, a Wilmington School of the Bible of Liberty University graduate, is an educator, preacher, mentor, and teacher. Her mission? To see God’s glory revealed in the Earth through every life she touches.
“When I look at what inspired my current passion,” Gwendolyn explains, “it’s the desire to empower young girls and women to live life to their greatest potential. Growing up in an underprivileged community where dreams often took a backseat to harsh realities, I wanted to change the narrative. I wanted to give women from all walks of life the freedom that can only be found in Christ through the power of prayer.”
Her values, taken from Matthew 22:37-39, are the anchor that holds her fast in every aspect of her life – business, ministry, and personal relationships. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind,” she quotes, “and love your neighbor as yourself. This is how we should treat each other.”
Gwendolyn’s faith is not something to be compartmentalized; it permeates every aspect of her work. “I am a living epistle, a letter written for all to read,” she says. Her sticky notes, scribbled with Bible scriptures and prayers offered to grieving family members and friends, all speak of her unwavering faith in Christ. “It’s about cultivating change,” she adds. “If we can change one life, we can affect many lives and ultimately generations.”
As we look ahead to 2024, Gwendolyn’s vision is clear. She plans to continue her book series ‘Woman to Woman,’ focusing on prayers for career women, mothers at all stages of parenting, and community leaders. She also aims to advance in academia in biblical studies while continuing to preach the word of God.
